Over the weekend, I had the honor of supporting a mom during her labor and delivery as her doula.
Most people associate doulas with birth, but there are doulas for death, abortion, and men also.
The foundation of being a doula is having the ability to hold space for another to allow the flow of energy to occur for whatever the individual is experiencing; to empower the individual to get through the experience knowing that it is only a moment in time.
Sometimes laboring is hard and is longer than expected.
Any woman who’s ever given birth knows the pain and suffering you can experience during labor.
I remember wanting to die. It was one of the scariest times of my life.
I felt I was in a space of nowhere suspended in time. It felt never-ending.
Laboring can be one hell of a battle, but it’s only a moment in time.
There are times in life when things seem unbearable and you may want to throw in the towel.
The pain becomes unbearable and it may be impossible to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Know that these are only growing pains.
Keep pushing knowing that you have something beautiful and healthy waiting for you on the other side.
