Today I caught myself carrying around a huge amount of anxiety. Then the thought came to me, “why do I feel like this?” Had it been the unpleasant encounter with T-mobile customer service rep or rushing to make an appointment that I ultimately missed!? Whatever it was, I didn’t want to feel it anymore. It was taking up space in my chest and it was weighing me down. It was heavy. So I made a conscious decision to let it go. I took a deep breathe, accepted it, and continued along with my day. Right in that moment.
Had I not made the choice to accept what I was feeling in the moment, I’m sure my day would have been horrible, but instead I allowed the anxiety to move through my body as I continued to move through the day. This made me think about all the baggage that we carry around with us on a daily basis. We allow our negative emotions to come in and change the course of our entire day without even being aware of it. How many times have you repeated that argument that you had with your coworker? Are you still harboring on the mishap between you and your partner?
We allow a cluster of negative energy to form in our bodies causing unnecessary stress and dis-ease. We never make a conscious choice to hold on to the emotions that we identify as “good” such as happiness, joy, or laughter. Instead we get hung up on anger, frustration, and sadness. We ultimately are creating more pain for ourselves by holding on to these emotions. When we acknowledge our emotions, accept them for what they are, and allow them to pass through, we can enter into the next experience with complete awareness.
Whether it is the anxiety in your chest, pain in your back, or anger in your heart, it will stay in your body until you choose to release it. The moment you bring awareness to anything, it no longer has control over you. All of life is about moment-to-moment awareness. If it’s not happening right now, let it go. We have to be willing to check our baggage before we can take flight and experience higher levels of consciousness and peace.
